René the mole go back to your hole

Taking a break from unpacking to share something that I just heard on the news. This has just become the number-one downloaded song in France:

René La Taupe - Mignon Mignon Version complète
envoyé par minette39. - Regardez des vidéos d'animaux drôles.

I just have to say....WHY? What is it that makes people like these dumb jingles? I can't be the only one whose ears bleed when I hear this kind of stuff.

And why do the French have such a love for 3D animals anyway? You see them everywhere - on talk shows, game shows, etc. I just don't get it - there's nothing more ridiculous than seeing an adult talking to an animated personnage as if it was really there, but yet it happens all the time.

Every morning when I get up, I turn on the TV to channel 9 and watch some music videos while waking up. This song, by Amel Bent, has been on the hit list for a few months now:

And I don't mind the song, per say - it's just the end that makes me cringe. I absolutely cannot stand the part at the end where the mom comes and screeches "Y'en a marre" at her daughter for singing - it makes me flinch every time. It just reminds me of how so many French mothers out there interact with their children - yelling at them, degrading them, etc. I see it all the time in the streets or in stores (or even when I used to work in the school system), and it's something I've never gotten used to. Not to mention they usually have voices high-enough for only dogs to hear. It's like frickin' nails on a chalkboard.

I'm really liking this song right now:

It's called "Comme des Enfants" by a Quebecoise named Béatrice Martin. I just bought the entire album, entitled "Coeur de Pirate" - both Fnac.com and Amazon.fr offering select albums for only 2.99€. For that price, there's no need to think twice about downloading legally!

I've got an early flight down to Biarritz for work, and I never sleep well when I know I have to get up early, so here I am blogging at 4:30am on a Monday morning, waiting for my car to arrive to take me to the airport. It's just a short trip, I'll be back late Tuesday night - hopefully everything will go well, this is kind of my first big trip I'm doing on my own.

Anyways, I got tagged by Treefeathers, and even though I'm not really a meme person, I've been meaning to do a music post, so here goes - 7 songs that I've been into lately:

Jeff Buckley - "Hallelujah"

BB Brunes - "Dis-moi". It's just so full of high school angst, how can you not like it?

Mauss et Charlie - "Je recherche"

REM- "Supernatural Superserious"

And even though I'm fairly anti-Julien Doré, I do like this song:

Number six is by Thomas Dutronc - I really like its main tag line "Je me suis reveillé de bon humeur" (I woke up in a good mood):

While looking him up on YouTube, I discovered he also sang another song that I really like, entitled "J'aime plus Paris":

Grr, what is wrong with me? I keep waking up at 5am on the dot. I can go to bed at 1opm, midnight, 2am - doesn't matter, I'll still wake up at 5 the next day. And it's not jet lag since it's been happening every day since "it" happened. But why 5am? I guess I should be happy that at least here in the US, I have cable so I can always find something to watch that early.

I've also had this song stuck in my head for the past few weeks. Maybe I should send the link to Fab, lol.
