There's a building that I walk by a few times a month on my way to the American Library of Paris that I find absolutely fascinating. (Though apparently not fascinating enough to cross over the street and actually read the plaque that's out front).
Look at how ornate those windows are.And even the undersides of the balcony are over-the-top.How about that main entrance? Not to mention the view...

I think I walked by that building in August. very cool.
Oh I didn't tell you, that's my new apartment ;)
Have you ever looked through the Thirza Valois books, 'Around and About Paris'? They are guide books to Paris by arrondissement and she directs you along different walking tours, where she describes different points of interests (architectural, historical, literary, etc). I'm sure that she would mention a building like that. I've always loved them and found them so useful when all the Frenchies in my entourage have proven themselves absolutely useless in this respect.
That is SOMEEEEE building!! I LOVE it!!!
I love this building too (I work at the ALP!) and just read about it in my Fodor's guide (of all places) last week. It was designed by Julies Lavirotte in 1901 and was owned by a ceramics expert, Alexandre Bigot, who partnered with Lavirotte frequently. The scuplted woman's head in the center of the door is probably the architect's wife!
Beautiful! My favorite passtime is walking around the city and looking at buildings. Never seen this one.
Oh wow, thanks for the info Ann, how cool!
Hi I have just read about this building on a blog I came across whilst researching something else. When I looked at it on their blog , I thought, mmmm seen that somewhere else before. They had actually linked to it too!
And with Ann's info we all know about it now :-)
And here's another bit of trivia about the building. In the movie Gigi (with Leslie Caron), it's the home of Gigi's aunt, the one who is preparing her to be a courtesan.
