As we were getting off at Picadilly station, I heard a group of Christmas carolers at the top of the escalators. It turned out to be a class of school children trying to raise money for their school. It was cute, but I found it a bit odd, kind of like child exploitation (especially since it was during school hours).

My daughter had to learn about Picadilly Station in her English class yesterday. I would have liked hearing the carols even if it's a little weird making the school kids sing on school time. Maybe it was choir class.

Oooh I miss that! You never see that kind of thing in France, I never really know it's truly Christmas until I go back to Britain. Anyway the kids at British primary schools do that every year during school time amongst other things such as practising and then giving a Christmas show and Christmas crafts day. A lot of schools also have a drama team come in to give the kids a Christmas pantomime or play which takes up an entire afternoon. The kids love it though. Over there, when there's only a week or two left of school before Christmas, they don't really do a lot of work. I used to love the holiday season when I was at school...oh Ksam! You've made me nostalgic! :-p

Having something fun to do during school time is always the best as a kid! Even French schoolchildren can't work all the time! Besides, I don't think it's exploitation unless the kids are somehow being abused (like super long hours, poor conditions, not going to school at all, etc). Donating time to raise money for a cause is something we should all be doing, and is a value I think we should instill in our children.

There were carols at the square outside my window the other day when they turned on the tree for the season. It was so cute and probably one of the first times I'd really experienced carolers (doesn't really happen much in the neck of the woods I came from).
