Organs, it's what's for dinner

I saw this on my way to a client's the other day, and it cracked me up - it's so representative of this rural area.

It's an ad for a supermarket chain, advertising a crazy-days sale on various organs & innards. For the piddly sum of 1.50€ per kilo, you can get your fill of kidneys, hearts or pig tongue. Bon appetit !

Beautiful photo of the "slaughter fair" offerings poster on the wonderful wall with windows.

You see so many fascinating images in the course of your work and daily life. Your photos are always so evocative of a mysterious France.

Vive la France! lol

When I was younger, I used to eat fried pigs feet, beef muzzle salad, and raw chipolatas (I have been a vegetarian for ten years now and I find these things so digusting! lol) ;)

That's one thing about France: EVERY PART of an animal is eaten. I don't think I could ever get used to eating kidneys or brains or intestines or whatever - and actually, I wouldn't even try, to be honest. It must be so challenging to be a vegetarian in France.

Lamb and veal kidneys are terrific, but I don't know if I've ever had pig kidneys... hmmm.

I like the "variety meats" from many animals, but the pig organs are not the choicest. That's why they are cheap. The pork liver is an ingredient in pâtés. I'm sure people also buy these products as treats for their dogs and cats.

You have to admire French people for not wasting anything when they prepare an animal carcass for food.
