Wine-oh!

A few weeks ago, Anne posted about some of the crazy wine names popping up in the US. After a trip to the local liquor store last night, I saw all of those and more. I don't know about you guys, but these names almost turn me off.  Who wants to drink Fat Bastard wine??

Can you imagine bringing this one to a dinner party?  You'd leave the hostess wondering about your post-party intentions....
And don't even get me started on these bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau that were selling for a whopping $16.49 per bottle!
Lastly, this one isn't wine-related, but we went out to eat the other night, and I was sad to see that my favorite childhood drink now contains 0% juice.  That is crazy!  And so sad.

Wow, the GD Beaujolais Nouveau was only $9.99 in Kentucky. I bought some, because it was under my threshold: ten bucks. :)

I bought that Fat Bastard and it made me say that. A neighbor gave us a bottle of Menage a Trois and it was, as they say, "eh." And the Beaujolais Nouveau? Usually that import has a pretty label at least...not even that this year. O for 3. There are nicer wines out there! (Thanks for the shout out.)

Menage a trois is widely available here. We went to the winery in Napa this past summer. It's great if you like your wines 'jammy'. I also saw the chick in 'the closer' drink some on the tv show.

0% juice and apparently proud of it. And yeah, anyone who would pay 16.99 for Beaujolais Nouveau is a little crazy.

Actually, I found the Fat Bastard wine back in the States before I moved here, and always quite liked it. We even bought a few bottles for our US wedding party. If nothing else, it's a fun conversation starter (and if you say "Fat Bastard" with a French accent it's even funnier). Try it!

PS I like the Fat Bastard red, I think it's a Merlot blend. Haven't actually tried the white. And it IS actually produced in France, despite the name (read the story on the label).

I bought some Beaunichons wine at the Salon des Vignerons Independents last year. Totally French but definitely bad taste in both senses of the term. Rude names are fine for real ale but I'm not convinced they work for wine!

We took a picture of the Fat Bastard wine in a Publix supermarket in Boca. We also took a picture of a wine made with a chocolate base. Now there's something that would sell well in the States but never here.

Sad about the Hi-C; I'm surprised that's still on the market. So vintage!

Oh that's funny, my aunt had a bottle of Menage à Trois and I had a glass with my Thanksgiving dinner. I thought it was a little sweet but ok. She also had a variety of wines called "Middle Sister" (she is, in fact, a middle sister) displayed in a cabinet with her wine glasses. I think the names are fun, it's not like they have the history of appelations and all that over there!
