Totally Frenched Out

Because everyone loves some good gossip....

So I got some big news this week. I was talking to Fab the other day and we were totally judging a friend's child-rearing techniques. After which, I laughed and said "Well, I suppose it's easy for us to say, we're not parents". And then Fab was suddenly silent on the other end. And I was like "Wait a minute, is there something you're not telling me?" And he said "Actually....Kathell/Cattle is pregnant, so I guess I'm going to be a father."

Whoa.

Let me just say it again - Whoa.

Now I knew it would happen sometime, but I guess I just wasn't expecting right now. (And apparently neither was he!)

But he seems to be at peace with the whole idea now, and honestly, so am I. Even though I didn't really want kids, Fab was the first one I actually talked about it with. We talked about what our kids would look like, what our hopes were for them, potential names, etc. At that point, I still saw him as the future father of my kids. So it's weird to think about him now having a child with someone else. But as I sit here typing this, ironically almost five years to the day that I started blogging AND just a few kilometers from where my French adventure began, I find that I'm mostly happy for him.

Time may not heal all wounds, but this one is at least getting smaller.

Wow. I think it shows a lot of wisdom on your part to take this news so gracefully, and the fact that you're happy for him shows how much you've grown in the last couple of years. And you're SO much better off now, btw :)

I followed your link, Sam and read your early days. One thing that strikes many of us was your observation:
"Plus, I've found it hard to make friends with French women (they are so competitive but yet passive-aggressive), and the men lose interest once they find out your are taken..."
Too right. Many French women also think you're after their husband, or that they husband will go after you although in fact, like you, I found that once a French man discovered I was taken and not interested in a 5-7 relationship, I was treated like an amoeba.

There are exceptions, natch, most of whom have lived abroad, I find.

Wow.
Time does heal wounds, even though when we're in the thick of the hurting, it doesn't seem possible. I'm happy for you that your life has taken such positive direction, proof that good things happen to good people :)

Wow.. I think that is BIG news, considering everything that has happened... In the big scheme of things, you can really feel how time does start to heal wounds- and things do hurt less-- and that you can feel happy for your ex when you hear things like that!
I'm happy that you found C. though... because I know it makes a difference when you have something important in your life... Leese

that's always hard. Finding out an ex is now with someone/getting married/having kids. I have one or two exes that make me feel that way.

I'm so happy that you are at peace with this! You have really moved on (and moved up, in my opinion!) and that is SUCH a lovely feeling.

I know that I used to obsess over one of my exes- what he was doing, who he was with, etc... I never thought I would get over him and now? While I think about him from time to time I feel surprisingly neutral about everything he put me through... I guess it is true that time heals all wounds!

Wow, that is good gossip! Do you think they'll name the baby after another barnyard animal?

You are amazing for being so calm about the whole thing and taking it in stride. You're in such a good place with C and you life in Paris. I'm so genuinely happy for you. You deserve it!
