Totally Frenched Out

The travel gods just weren't with me this trip - my bags got lost again Tuesday and have yet to be found. Every single plane I took (6 total) was either canceled or delayed. (Surely that must be worth some kind of award Keith??).

I think a lot of it is due to the fact that Delta seems to be doubling up on a lot of their flights. Example: My flight to Las Vegas did back-to-back flights from New York-Minneapolis and then Minneapolis-Vegas. And then Vegas-Minneapolis-Atlanta on the way back. My flight to Detroit was heading on to Amsterdam afterwards. I guess they're just trying to cut costs, but to me, that just means the possibility of a lot more problems at other airports down the line. If anything goes wrong along the way, it throws the timing of everything else off, meaning delayed flights, missed connections, lost bags, etc.

I guess it's all part of the risk one takes by traveling during the winter months, and like I said in a previous post, I learned my lesson long ago and keep everything important in my carry-on. But it does mean that poor C is still waiting for his Christmas presents - though maybe it serves him right since he made me wait until I got back to open mine!

I wish they would triple the price of airline tickets. That way they wouldn't have to treat you like cattle to make a buck, less people would be flying and you would then be entitled to gripe.

Hmmm... I'll think about the award.

I'll have a root around. I do believe that somewhere there is an old The Unluckiest Flyer Ever (and thus someone you want to avoid ever getting on a plane with) Award lying around - perhaps it's hidden under that pile of Awards for Nearly Drowning in a Cow Pat!

I'll put my boots and gloves on and go and have a look for you.

All the best

Keith

Uh oh, I have a Delta flight coming up tomorrow...hopefully all will go well. You're so stoic about your misplaced bags! I would be freaking out. Of course the last time my bag got lost I didn't get it again until four months later. Hope yours has a quicker turnaround time. :)

Having worked for a major airline for over 20 years, airlines rarely have planes sitting around going from A to B and back to A. They often change the flight number so it looks like a simple route, but it really isn't. It's the aircraft number that you have to check. Was there more bad weather this week? That really throws a monkey wrench in the airline's operations. I haven't worked in the airline industry for over 9 years but I still shudder when I hear about bad weather on the East coast during the holidays.

I hope you get your luggage soon! On your flight to the US when you mentioned having packed your work laptop in your checked bags I shuddered. I was very relieved when you said everything had arrived safe and sound.

I'm sure if you contact customer service they will give you some miles or perhaps $ for your inconvenience. Delta is a good company.

Ugh, I know, that was really dumb of me, especially since my co-workers have had their computers stolen before. I blame it on the lack of sleep - I was so damn tired and just couldn't see lugging that damn thing around for the next 24hrs. Given everything that happened and how long it took me to actually arrive, I have to admit that I was rather glad it was in my checked bags in the end. But you're right, it's not something to recommend!!

Oh no!! That's terrible. My bag was recently lost for two days in Russia... And when I went to Argentina a few years back it was the same thing. I really oughta start packing some back-up clothes in my carry-on!

Again?!!! Too bad KSam. I hope the future flights are a bit less harrowing.

At least you had the important stuff in the carry on :).

I didn't mean to say you were dumb...just daring! Besides, I know how heavy laptops can be. It's refreshing to hear that you can pack expensive items and have them still be in your bags at your destination.
